Welcome! We're Tyler and Krista; world travellers, wilderness explorers, and hospitality enthusiasts who’ve chased adventure across Canada, Patagonia, Iceland & Australia. From fly fishing and backcountry treks to cozy evenings by the fire, we’ve brought the best of our journeys together to craft a lodge where nature, comfort, and discovery come together. Come for the scenery, stay for the stories, and leave with memories that last a lifetime.

Our Story:
We have been fortunate in many ways in our life, and beginning our family with two beautiful daughters, Palena Janet & Mira River, was a dream come true. However, our youngest, Mira, was born with a rare and undiagnosed genetic condition that required extensive care and ultimately ended her life after only nine and a half years. Even though the years were not nearly enough, we did everything we could to give her, and all of us, a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and joy.
Nature and outdoor activity were always an important part of our lives. Time in the woods, on the water, and along the trail helped us stay grounded as a family, and these experiences became even more meaningful as Mira’s health needs grew more complex. After her passing, the natural world offered us the space we needed to breathe, reflect, and begin to heal.
This understanding, that nature can support, steady, and restore us, is what brought us here. We are building our ecolodge around that belief. We are creating a place where people can rest, explore, and reconnect with themselves and with others, whether for personal growth or, like us, to navigate their own chapters of loss and change. A place where wellness and adventure meet.
In honour of Mira, and in gratitude for the healing we found outdoors, we are developing programs and experiences that support resilience, balance, and well-being. Our story shapes everything we do, and we welcome you to find your own moments of peace, joy, and renewal in this landscape that has given us so much.

Our Mission
Move, heal, learn: The three elements necessary for overall health. We are a service forward wilderness destination that combines minimalist luxury in rustic lakeside accommodations with outdoor education and recreation opportunities. Our overarching dual focus is sustainability and passive eco-therapy needed for a healthy life balance.

Krista Steenburgh-Dunsmore

Calanais Standing Stones, Isle of Lewis, Scotland
My life began in the outdoors, shaped by an Outdoor Education degree and years spent hosting and managing fly-fishing and wilderness lodges across Canada and in Patagonia. Those early experiences rooted my belief that nature, community, and care are deeply connected.
My desire to help others has guided my work in non-profit leadership, healthcare governance, and patient advocacy, and has found its greatest expression in motherhood. Over the last decade, I’ve focused on health and wellness education, completing a BA in Community Health and a post-graduate diploma in mental health, and I am now completing a Master’s in Social Work.
Bringing our vision of an eco-lodge to life with my husband Tyler blends together the threads of my life’s work, outdoor education, wellness, and meaningful support. It is a space where I hope guests feel welcomed, cared for, and connected.

Professional Fly Fishing Guide | Casting Instructor | Outdoor Adventure Specialist | Lodge Manager
With over 25 years of fly fishing experience, Tyler has guided anglers from Patagonia to British Columbia, New Brunswick, and his home waters in Ontario. An expert in both single-hand and Spey casting, he offers personalized instruction for beginners and experienced anglers alike.
Tyler’s adventures span the globe—from Australia and New Zealand to the Caribbean—and he brings that same passion for exploration to Ten Mile Lake Lodge. Beyond guiding, he’s a seasoned backcountry canoeist, hiker, and lodge manager, dedicated to sharing his knowledge and creating unforgettable experiences for every guest.
Palena brings humor, heart, and a world of experience to our lodge. She is funny, smart, and deeply passionate about coffee, a trained barista who appreciates every detail from beans to brew. When she’s not experimenting with new blends, she’s likely skiing downhill, thrifting for slow-fashion treasures, or planning her next adventure.
She has travelled through Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Greece, and currently, France, England, and Wales, and has spent several seasons in Whistler. Her past roles include service staff at a remote fly-fishing lodge, an organic junior farmer, and an optometrist office assistant, experiences that taught her adaptability, curiosity, and connection with people from all walks of life.
At the ecolodge, she helps shape our social media presence and international outreach, sharing the spirit of this place with guests near and far. Her dream is to continue exploring the world, meeting friends, and collecting stories along the way.
